Summer is here and the sun is out! That means it’s time to be sun safe while spending time outdoors. Don’t forget to share with us your pictures of how you protect yourself from the sun. Get ready for some news as we update you on the following:

  • Updating the Apps
  • Engineering Milestones

Sun Index Apps

Thanks for your great feedbacks about the Sun Index apps. We’ve worked hard to address your concerns and bring you new and exciting features that will make your Sun Index experience an exceptional one. You don’t need a Sun Index wearable to use “Sun Index”. However, a Sun Index wearable is required to access to UV index and temperature readings from exactly where you are standing, in real-time.

From the home page, simply swipe left to reach the new Forecast page. It lets you know whether tomorrow’s temperature will be the same as, much cooler, cooler, warmer, or much warmer than today’s. The Forecast page also features a three-day extended forecast allowing access to the high and low temperatures, and predicted precipitation for up to three days in the future. Last but not least, we’ve included a 60-minute precipitation forecast. For cities in the UK, USA, and Canada, you can access the predicted intensity and onset time of the precipitation, right down to the 1-minute interval. For all other cities, you can access the daily hourly forecast.

App Update

Another new feature that we’ve added is the Sun Time countdown. It appears on the home page and lets you know the time remaining until sunset or sunrise. This will help you to know when you’ll start to need sun protection, and when you’ll be able to stop using sun protection for the day. Lastly, we’ve updated the Search for Location feature. Previously, users could only search for cities in English, but now, you can search for cities in any language supported by Google.

Engineering Milestones

During the last month, we’ve been implementing low power mode in our firmware as well as hardware, due to which our design has undergone lots of testing and troubleshooting, and as a result, we have our final design. This is a more robust design which will ensure that our customers get the most efficient Sun Index experience for a longer period of time. Our team is now primarily focused on testing the prototypes and preparing for manufacturing and certifications.

We’re really happy with the final design. Sun Index gives not only accurate but fast readings. We’ve also finalized the enclosure design since our last update in May.
